Member Competitions and Matches
There are competitions almost every weekend from the end of March to the end of September, with a good variety of formats giving numerous opportunities to challenge your handicap.
Most weekend competitions run on both Saturdays and Sundays, giving members the best possible chance of entering.
There are a number of knockout competitions that run throughout the season, with the finals being played on Club Finals Day in September.
We run regular midweek medal or stableford competitions, in addition to the 5 day knockout competitions which run throughout the summer months.
Invitation Day is an opportunity for members to invite a guest for a fantastic day of golf and hospitality. One of the most popular events of the year, this day really shows the Club off at its best, while providing a fun day for all.
The men play 12 friendly matches during the year against other local clubs, all of which provide friendly competition and a good day out. These are open to all members with a handicap.
We have a scratch team in the County Scratch League, and new for 2017, a team in the recently formed Scratch ‘B’ League, providing more competitive golf for our better players.

The ladies section run competitions almost every week of the year, with some fun competitions breaking up the qualifying competitions. The ladies run most of their competitions on both Saturdays and Tuesdays, allowing those who work during the week the opportunity to play in the same competitions as those who play mainly midweek.
The Ladies run a number of knockout competitions throughout the season, with the finals played on Club Finals Day.
The ladies also host an Invitation Day, in addition to their popular Spring and Autumn Meetings.
The ladies have a number of friendly matches against other local clubs, in addition to playing in the Pearson Trophy, and the County Scratch League.

The seniors section is an active and vibrant part of Welwyn Garden City Golf Club. They have regular competitions in addition to the men’s club competitions, with their own Invitation Day, medals, and a variety of other competitions.
The seniors match team, The Badgers, play matches home and away against 16 local clubs, with these matches contributing to a busy schedule for the seniors section.
The matches and competitions are open to all men over the age of 55.

There are a number of mixed competitions run through the golfing year, ranging from a competitive scratch salver to a fun “Adam & Eves” competition on Easter Monday.
We play mixed matches on a Sunday afternoon against a number of other local Clubs in a greensomes format, which provide a fun and friendly way to finish the weekend.
